Are lessons beginner-friendly?
Absolutely. During her Master's in Dance Education program at the University of Northern Colorado, Anna developed a curriculum that takes someone from being a non-dancer to a confident and fun mover in a short amount of time.
How will you customize my dance?
Our favorite question! It all starts with your song. During your first session, your instructor will show you several dance styles that will work with it. Once you see the options, you can choose which style and aesthetic you like best. Your instructor will give you options for every move. It is an incredibly collaborative process where you get to build the dance of your dreams! And, if at any point you want to change anything, we absolutely can! This experience is 100% customizable.
What if we want to switch who's leading and following?
That's great! In the dynamic and modern world, we often meet partners who may not only want to dance the "traditionally-opposite" role, but also switch roles partway through the dance. Anna's Master's of Dance Education thesis focused on this topic. Switch dancing is accessible, fun, and a beautiful representation of a modern relationship, and we love empowering you in your authentic self-expression!
What if we want to have multiple songs in one dance?
We love song medleys! In fact, your instructor can help recommend where to transition from song to song for the best dance experience. Then, we'll either ask your DJ to cut the song for you, or a Magic Wedding Dance-partnered DJ can create your custom medley.
What if I have a pre-existing injury or disability?
We wholeheartedly believe that everyone can dance. We have created beautiful dances for people with different physical and mental abilities. In all cases, we work to understand the abilities, and design movements that will be safest and achievable. There are myriads of modifications to every move, and we will partner with you to create what works for your body. These are some of our proudest dances we have ever created!
What are the packages?
Our packages depend on your vision. Whether you want to recreate a specific dance scene from a famous movie, want to learn the basics and have a simple roadmap, or want a full choreography that we dream up specifically for you and your song, we can't wait to create your perfect dance. Please peruse our packages and see which one will support your vision best!
Can I combine multiple services in one package?
Absolutely! In fact, it is common for couples to book a package that includes sessions for a First Dance as well as additional sessions for A La Carte services such as Parent-Child dances.
Do I have to pay everything up front?
Not at all. At the first session, a $700 deposit (which covers the first two sessions) will be due. Following sessions are significantly less per-hour, and you can pay per-session as the lessons happen. Please explore our packages here.
Why is the travel fee not included in the package?
Some of our couples live out of state, so our travel varies from several miles to cross-country flights. Our travel fees are based on a standard industry calculation.
Where are the sessions held?
As a part of our full-service offering, your instructor will travel to you for the sessions! We'll bring several mirrors and transform your living room into a cozy dance studio for several hours. That way you're in the comfort of your home and no driving is required. We've discovered that if either of the partners feels any nervousness about the dance process, being in your own safe space makes trying something as vulnerable as dancing feel easier. We are committed to your comfort so you can increase confidence!
Is it OK that I have pets at home?
Yes, we love furry friends!
How much space do I need in my home?
Especially for the first several sessions while we're learning foundations, we only need a small space. We've done successful sessions in a hallway, although that was quite tight. a small living room is plenty. A larger space is beneficial once we start learning expansive lifts, large dips, and big travelling moves.
Can we meet somewhere outside of our home?
Absolutely! We can meet at a park near you, at a gym or yoga studio you have access to, or rent a dance studio near your home. We partner with dozens of studios; some are super affordable and amazing, and we'd be happy to book one close to your home.
What should we wear?
While learning the dance, socks and comfy clothes are great. After we learn the dance, we'll have our Polish Session(s). A polish session focuses on the continuous movement, energy, and flow of the dance to have you feel and look breathtaking! At this time, we'll recommend dancing in your wedding dance shoes so you get used to moving in them. Additionally, we'll use props to imitate wearing a dress or tight-fitting jacket so you can get used to dancing in formal clothes.
Will you customize my dance to my specific wedding dress?
Yes! One of the most fun things is seeing how we can use the dance to highlight a specific dress. A Strapless versus a V-neck; a mermaid versus an A-Line; a Ball Gown versus a Short. The possibilities are endless and we love them all.
